Health Minister Launches Two Northern Trust Software Systems

Health Minister Edwin Poots has launched two new hospital IT systems which will significantly improve patients’ health and save lives through the appropriate use of medications, including antibiotics. Developed by the Pharmacy and Medicines Management Department in the Northern Trust, the two systems are the Live Automated Microbiology Pharmacy Surveillance System (LAMPS) and the Electronic Medicines Reconciliation System (EMRS).

The patent application filed by Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to protect its rapid meningitis diagnostic has been granted in the USA. Granted patent US8465927 – Detection of Neisseria meningitidis by loop mediated isothermal amplification – is licensed exclusively to HiberGene Diagnostics Ltd, a rapid molecular diagnostics company, for its meningococcal diagnostic.

Protecting and Exploiting Intellectual Property in Healthcare – Event Report

On 18th June 2013 HSC Innovations in conjunction with Invest NI and the UK Intellectual Property Office delivered a workshop on ‘Protecting and Exploiting Intellectual Property in Healthcare’. There were over 60 delegates from health sector companies, clinicians and researchers from throughout Northern Ireland who participated in the interactive workshop to learn how best to protect and exploit their Intellectual Assets. HSC Finalist in NISP CONNECT £25k Award

An initiative emerging from the Western Health and Social Care Trust has reached the final stage of the £25k Awards administered by the Northern Ireland Science Park’s CONNECT programme. Digitease is based around outcomes from research and development to measure stiffness and lack of movement in human joints.
