Caution: This post is more than a year old. Be sure to check for more up to date information.

Staff in the Belfast HSC Trust have just three weeks left to submit entries to the Chairman’s Awards 2010.

Entries are now being invited for The Chairman’s Awards 2010 to recognise the achievements of health and social care teams throughout the Trust.  As in previous years the categories reflect the Trust’s five corporate objectives:

  • Safety and Quality
  • Modernisation
  • Partnerships
  • Resources
  • Our People

If you or your team is doing particularly good work in any of these areas, now’s the time to tell everyone about it and have your efforts recognised.

Colm Donaghy, Chief Executive said, “It is very important to recognise the good work done in our organisation and I look forward to joining the Chairman to see the work that staff have done in these challenging times”.

First prize in each the five categories is a silver perpetual cup and £10,000 to reinvest in the service area. Second prize is £3,000 and third prize £2,000 – both for service re-investment. The final fifteen shortlisted entries will be presented on DVD at the Chairman’s Awards ceremony in 2011.

The Awards Categories

  • Safety and Quality
  • Entries in this category should reflect the provision of high quality, effective care.  Typical entries in this category would include work on the Patient / Client Experience, Standards, Outcomes, Continuous Improvement projects and Assurance initiatives. This year entries on the prevention of Healthcare Acquired Infections are particularly encouraged.

  • Modernisation
Here we are looking for projects which help to reform and renew Trust services.  They will include work on access to services, service reviews and work restructuring services. Entries featuring initiatives which lead to improved patient / client care through the elimination of bureaucracy are being encouraged.
  • Partnerships
All schemes which seek to improve health and well being through partnership with users, communities and partners will be eligible under this category.  Their specific characteristics will include citizen centred initiatives, joint working and civic leadership qualities.
  • Our People
The support and development of staff ranks highly in the Trust’s corporate objectives.  Entries in this category should demonstrate leadership and excellence through organisational and workforce development.  Among the features of these entries will be staff engagement, learning and development, evidence of excellence in management capacity and team effectiveness.
  • Resources
Entries demonstrating the best use of resources by improving performance and productivity will feature in this category.  Among a range of initiatives from service groups right across the Trust will be entries under the MORE initiative, workforce diagnostics, process improvements, resource utilisation, performance management and Value for Money.

Each entry should consist of a description of the initiative accompanied by an entry cover sheet.
